About Us
Freeneys High Street Galway has been a family run business since 1938 when Martin and Julia
Freeney opened as a bar, grocery and firearms business.
With the arrival of supermarkets in the late 1960,s the business diversified and the grocery shop
began to trade as a fishing tackle /sports goods business, supplying a wide range of tackle for sea,
coarse, and game fishing in addition to a selection of hunting equipment, darts, zippo lighters, fly-
tying equipment and assessories.
Located in the heart of the city in the Latin Quarter on High Street, Freeneys is now operated by the
second generation with Tony at the helm and he is very knowledgeable about the extensive range
of rare Irish Whiskeys and the Fishing Tackle business.
Freeneys is frequented by locals and tourists alike and it is a popular meeting place for fishing
enthusiasts and those who enjoy a good pint and/or a good Irish Whiskey.
